Transmission of proteopathic tau proteins in Alzheimer’s disease

The distribution of pathological protein inclusions widens during disease progression and
strongly correlates with clinical stages in proteopathies including Alzheimer’s disease (AD),
Parkinson’s disease (PD) and ALS etc. Recent advances in imaging technology enabled the
prediction of patient-specific patterns of spreading of proteotoxic proteins, such as tau in AD
and alpha-synuclein in PD, along neural connection. Previous studies have focused on
demonstrating transsynaptic propagation of various pathogenic species in vitro and in vivo.
However, crucial receptors and environmental factors affecting and regulating the
transmission of pathogenic proteins are largely unknown. In this talk I will focus on tau
pathology and propagation in AD and describes crucial factors regulating the transmission.
