On the cover: Adipose stem cells (ASCs) are the origin of visceral and subcutaneous white fat depots. In this issue, Nahmgoong et al. (pp. 458–472) utilize single-cell RNA sequencing to identify fat depot-specific ASC subpopulations. They link the ASC subpopulations to distinct metabolic features of the two white fat depots, including adipogenesis, fibrosis, inflammation, and beige fat biogenesis.
