Variousnon-microbial projects being undertaken by this lab include:
l The effects of leaf shape and presence of teeth on airflow over leaves, measured in a wind tunnel. It has been suggested that teeth ofmany temperate tree leaves serve the function of promoting gas exchange, and weare testing this idea.
l Comparison of estimates of deforestation in North Korea,using different indices.
l Comparison of intra-population genetic diversity in oaksbetween various parts of Asia (Korea, Japan, China) and North America, as atest of the glacial extinction hypothesis (that Asian trees survived the iceages as larger populations).
