Land plants transport water through xylem, which has long been regarded as a static entity. However, xylem can undergo dynamic regulations, including internal occlusion or connection with other vessels. Indeed, dynamic regulation of xylem vessels occurs in various physiological contexts, such as reproduction and growth, forming the basis for the adaptive success of terrestrial plants. Despite their significance, the developmental mechanisms underlying versatile xylem dynamics remain largely unknown. To address this knowledge gap, my research integrates high-resolution imaging and histological methodologies to elucidate the mechanisms governing xylem dynamics. This work provides novel study background into the effective water use strategies of higher plants.
