Guidance Notes
on Implementation of Fingerprint RegIstration Scheme
for Registered Foreigners
The Ministry of Justice notifies that foreigners intending to stay in Korea for 91 days or longer must register, under Article 38 of Immigration Control Act, their fingerprint information when applying for alien registration from July 1 2011.
▶ Foreigners to register fingerprint information
❍ 17-year-old or older foreigners who are yet to apply for alien registration
❍ Foreigners staying in Korea after having finished alien registration before July 1, 2011
▶ Registration period of fingerprint information
❍ Foreigners who are yet to apply for alien registration are required to have their fingerprints registered when first applying for alien registration from July 1, 2011.
❍ Registered foreigners are required to have their fingerprints registered after January 1, 2012 when they visit a jurisdictional immigration office for any immigration service.

❍ Please be noted that foreigners need to be present in person for alien registration since foreigners can finish the process on the condition that they have their fingerprints registered at a jurisdictional immigration office.
